Nicolas Batum, F, 6-8, France -- Won't turn 20 until December. Athletic small forward is likely to remain in Europe for at least another season.

PLAYER NOTES:

--G Rudy Fernandez was in New York for the league's rookie orientation session on Tuesday, but then was scheduled to return to Spain. He is expected to be in Portland a week or so before the start of training camp on Sept. 30.

--An estimated 3,000 people attended a memorial service Saturday at Memorial Coliseum for Kevin Duckworth, the former Blazer center who died last week of complications related to an enlarged heart at age 44. Teammates Buck Williams, Terry Porter and Jerome Kersey were among those who spoke about the two-time All-Star.

--F Channing Frye participated in boxing workouts this summer to improve his strength and agility for the upcoming season. Frye said they are the most grueling workouts he has ever done. On Sept. 8, Frye had arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs from his left ankle. He will miss 8-to-10 weeks and the start of the regular season.
