Portland Trail Blazers Roster Report 2009-10-02

Portland Trail Blazers Roster Report 2009-10-02
PLAYER NEWS:

--C Greg Oden won't say how much weight he lost through strenuous offseason conditioning, but the 7-footer was listed at 285 last season and is now listed at 270. That would indicate he may have lost about 15 pounds.

--G Brandon Roy said the addition of G Andre Miller means he won't have to handle the ball as much. Roy said he'll work at getting better playing off the ball, coming off and setting screens, etc.

--G Rudy Fernandez said he has gained a few pounds, putting him up to about 185 on his 6-5 frame. "I need more (weight), but it's basketball," Fernandez said. "Look at Allen Iverson. He's not physical."

--There has been much question about the role of F Travis Outlaw, who said he considers himself a candidate to start at small forward. But it would seem with all the competition at the "3" spot, Outlaw may get the majority of his time at power forward behind Aldridge.

DRAFT PICKS:

Victor Clavert, F, 6-9, Spain (first round) -- Blazers have no room on their 2009-10 roster for the 20-year-old prospect, who will remain playing professionally in Spain for at least another season.

Jeff Pendergraph, F, 6-9, Arizona State (second round) -- With Channing Frye leaving for Phoenix, Pendergraph could have excellent shot at making the club next season.

Dante Cunningham, F, 6-9, Villanova (second round) -- He'll get a shot to battle Pendergraph for a spot in the Blazers' roster.

Patty Mills, G, 6-0, St. Mary's (second round) -- Blazers expected him to go much higher than No. 55; could earn the No. 3 point guard position.
