DRAFT PICKS:
Victor Clavert, F, 6-9, Spain (first round) -- Blazers have no room on their 2009-10 roster for the 20-year-old prospect, who will remain playing professionally in Spain for at least another season. Jeff Pendergraph, F, 6-9, Arizona State (second round) -- With Channing Frye leaving for Phoenix, Pendergraph could have excellent shot at making the club next season.
Dante Cunningham, F, 6-9, Villanova (second round) -- He'll get a shot to battle Pendergraph for a spot in the Blazers' roster.
Patty Mills, G, 6-0, St. Mary's (second round) -- Blazers expected him to go much higher than No. 55; could earn the No. 3 point guard position.
PLAYER NOTES:
--Free agent C Channing Frye left the Blazers to sign a two-year deal with the Suns. He will earn $1.99 million in 2009-10, then have a player option for $2.08 million in 2010-11.
--Coach Nate McMillan said the Blazers will carry 10 to 12 players on their roster for the Las Vegas Summer League next week, including second-round draft picks F Jeff Pendergraph, F Dante Cunningham and G Patty Mills.
--Second-year G Jerryd Bayless will be the only veteran on the Summer League entry. Bayless, the Las Vegas Summer League MVP a year ago, will work on his point-guard skills.
"I'll be running the point the whole time, and it's getting more comfortable with the nuances of the offense," Bayless said. "I'm still going to take the open shot. If it's there, I'm going to shoot it. I'm going to take the ball to the middle and try to make the right decision."
"What we really want from Bayless is to convert from a thinker to more of a reactor, a guy who can make teammates play better," Pritchard said. "I know he can score 30 points in a Summer League game. What we want to see is growth as a point guard."
--G Jerryd Bayless, C Greg Oden and F LaMarcus Aldridge will be among about 50 players taking part in a Team USA training camp July 22-25 at Las Vegas.
--GM Kevin Pritchard confirmed he intends to retain the rights to former first-round draft picks C/F Joel Freeland and G Petteri Koponen, who count a combined $1.65 million on the Blazers' cap figures.
