Portland Trail Blazers Roster Report 2008-09-22

Portland Trail Blazers Roster Report 2008-09-22
DRAFT PICKS:

Jarryd Bayless, G, 6-3, Arizona -- Quick, athletic, offensive-minded combo guard whom the Blazers will try to convert to a point guard.

Nicolas Batum, F, 6-8, France -- Won't turn 20 until December. Athletic small forward is likely to remain in Europe for at least another season.

PLAYER NOTES:

--PF/C Channing Frye underwent arthroscopic surgery on Sept. 8 to remove bone spurs from his left ankle. Frye is expected to be out eight to 10 weeks.

--C/PF Raef LaFrentz could be out most of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on Sept. 12 to repair a torn labrum.

--F Darius Miles, the ex-Blazer who signed with Boston after being diagnosed with a career-ending knee injury, said he feels like the knee is 90 to 95 percent healthy. But Miles, who turns 27 next month, doubts if he will ever be 100 percent again.

--C Greg Oden's "Summer Slam" event to raise funds for the Oregon Mentors program was attended by about 800 people at The Rose Garden.
