The Trail Blazers, who have struck out twice in attempts to add major pieces to their 2009-10 roster, continue to work at landing veteran talent.
Portland has missed on Hedo Turkoglu, who spurned the Blazers for Toronto, and Paul Millsap, whose four-year, $32 million offer by the Blazers was matched by Utah. But the Blazers hit on Andre Miller, the free agent point guard who was arguably Philadelphia's best player last season.
The Blazers didn't have to work a sign-and-trade agreement with the 76ers for Miller because they are $7.7 million under the salary cap. Miller originally sought between $8 million and $10 million a year, but he signed with the Blazers for $7 million over three years, although only the first two years are guaranteed.
With only Steve Blake and second-year pro Jerryd Bayless on the roster at point guard, it made sense that the Blazers were looking to upgrade -- or, at the minimum, solidify -- their talent at the position.
